WordPress is a free and open-source content management system that powers over 40% of the web. The WordPress project is supported by a vibrant community of volunteers who are passionate about open source technology. We are looking for someone to join our Automattic team dedicated to the WordPress open source software project efforts as a Head of Infrastructure.
We want this candidate to develop deep roots in the WordPress ecosystem and understand the dynamics of open source software development. This candidate will be responsible for end-to-end strategy and delivery of infrastructure by:
- Defining and communicating WordPress.org’s architectural vision and strategy, ensuring that architectures support and remain current with WordPress open source software strategies.
- Leading teams that build and maintain WordPress.org infrastructure, sites, networks, and contributor and user-facing tools.
- Identifying cross-team opportunities, internally and with the WordPress community, that result in delightful contributor and user experiences.
- Advising on best practices for infrastructure and systems, and creating supportive content to ensure longevity that welcomes contributors and users.
Requirements:
Deep expertise in the following areas will be vital for success in this role:
Technical Knowledge – Expertise in open source software development processes, technology/infrastructure, API architectures, security best practices, and applications. Bonus points for experience with WordPress, Google Analytics, and web programming languages.
Analytical Capabilities – Strong analytic and big picture capabilities. Ability to research, think critically, and make data informed decisions to find and apply effective solutions to big scope problems.
Communication – Ability to communicate with users, other technical teams, and leadership to collect requirements, plan strategically, and execute tactically. Ability to express complicated technical concepts in user terms, with excellent written, oral, and illustrative communication styles. Listens to and considers alternative perspectives to identify the efficient path forward.
Leadership – Mentors team leads for continued professional development. Educates and coaches infrastructure leads across the division. Uplifts the morale of the team with a positive mentality. Demonstrates capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations. Love of learning is a huge plus!
Project Management – Develops systems for accountability. Leads teams to deliver complex solutions, from scoping requirements through successful delivery to contributors and users.
